Training Overview

Directions
The Education Specialist Training for ES Candidates can be found in the ES Resources page of your school’s website. It is designed to walk the ES Candidate through each facet of the ES Resources in an organized manner, allowing the ES Candidate to choose to work through the portions of the training that are required before a candidate can become an ES serving students.  Then the rest of the trainings are for ESs to work through, choosing the ones to do first which are most pertinent to their situation as the needs arise.

1) You should be receiving an e-mail from the training staff, the Lead ES Advisor, and an Area Facilitator (just before school starts for summer trainers). If you do not, please contact Theresa (iemtraining@ieminc.org) by email or call 800-979-4436. The e-mail from the training staff will give you directions for setting up your mandatory school e-mail account and for downloading the school's online ES WEBfiles where you will do your training exams. You will need to contact your AF immediately to arrange to have your I-9 form signed. Note: All ES Candidates begin their training with our Lead Advisor, Tracy Edwards.

2) Start reading through the Training Section of the ES Handbook. The Introduction , Phase 1 , Phase 2, and Computer Overview with Advisor must be completed by all ES Candidates before students can be assigned. Read through each item listed in the phase, (all items are links from the ES Handbook and can be found there for future reference), and then proceed to the phase quizzes. The quizzes are located in your ES WEBfiles under “Create” ES Test. If you have trouble creating the quiz of your choice, please call or email the Lead ES advisor. (When taking the quizzes, please click on the question to fully view all answer options.) Be sure you complete the questions under all tabs, as some sections have more than 25 questions.

Quiz Procedure

A) ES/ES Candidate takes quiz in ES Webfiles.
B) The quizzes are auto corrected once or twice a day. You may also see completed quizzes in ES Webfiles/ES Detail. Click on the ES Training Tracker button. Where you are in the process of completing a quiz is listed.

C) ES/ES Candidate goes back into the ES Webfiles, Create Test, selects the phase to be corrected, then corrects those
questions that need correcting if any by just reclicking on a different answer.
E) Repeat steps until tests are 100% correct.

F) Please email or contact the Lead ES Advisor, not a training clerk, for specific questions related to ES training content, or if you are having issues with taking a quiz.

3) If you would like to explore ES WEBfiles as an ES Candidate (learning how to do a report card, learning record, etc.), you may use this to log in as ES1223, password estr2006. These are fictitious files that you can "play" with. It will not hurt anything to do this step!

4) It is the responsibility of each newly hired ES Candidate to call or email the Area Facilitator to coordinate a time to observe an ES visit with the "AF" as soon as it can be arranged, after school is in session. The ES Observation Visit form must be mailed/faxed to the training clerk at 530-626-8201 to show completion of this step in the candidate process.

5) Phases 3-15 can be completed in any order, but are best done after an ES Candidate has completed the items listed in #2 above, has been cleared to work by the personnel office, been assigned students and is ready to work for the school. The ES must complete at least 6 phases in the first month starting on the date than an e-mail is received assigining their first official student, and any remaining phases in the second month. (If an ES is unable to complete at least one phase per week, they are subject to a suspension from receiving additional transfers and prospective students, potentially leading to a drop in student count, and this will be reflected on their evaluation.) This is critical for the school, as we cannot have ESs answering questions in the field when they have not completed the school training. Prior to completing a section, please respond to a question "that you will check on an answer and get right back to them". Contact your assigned ES Advisor if you have any unusual circumstances that would prevent you from following this timeline, or if you need to delay starting service as an ES.

(Phases 3-8 are recommended phases to start on for any new ES starting out, unless you have high school students and would like to start with Phase 12… the choice is yours).

As you complete the reading and any Webex or video viewing (if applicable) in these phases, take the corresponding Phase test before progressing to a different phase. If a phase indicates that you should view a Webex/video, they are available on the school website's ES Protected page at the ES Video link (contact your advisor for how to access the ES Protected page).

6) Here is a link to a list of vendors recommended by the advisors for you to call to obtain catalogs, or visit their websites to be familiar with typical school curriculum.

7) New ESs will receive a mid-year evaluation at the end of the first 4- 6 months of employment.

8) Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Lead ES Advisor while in training, or your permanent advisor after that. The Advisor Team is waiting to help you! J
