(Use when an item they have requested has been denied by the
school/you/your advisor/school policy.)
Dear Parent:
You have requested items to be provided
by the school that I am not allowed to order.
As a public school we are accountable to
a variety of governmental organizations that check on/oversee what is purchased
with state dollars. As a school employee it is my responsibility
to make sure that I follow school policy to keep the school accountable.
Before ordering educational materials
for the student I must determine that the
materials/curriculum is appropriate for the student’s courses. I may only
order materials for students enrolled in the school and the items I order are materials that will be used to meet
that student’s school and state standards. I
may only order basic level items (not top-of-the-line ) for learning basic course skills (art
supplies, paper, pencils, etc). I
may only submit a request for basic raw materials (not top-of-the-line) for
learning basic course skills in one learning record documented educational
project: fabric, wood, yarn enough for one project (Exception: no food
purchases allowed.). I may not submit a request to spend
state funding on any "thing of value" that a student/parent then
"keeps" as a benefit of being enrolled in our school.
“CA Ed Code 51747.3) (a)
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a local educational agency,
including, but not limited to, a charter school, may not claim state funding
for the independent study of a pupil, whether characterized as home study or
otherwise, if the agency has provided any funds or other thing of value to the
pupil or his or her parent or guardian that the agency does not provide to
pupils who attend regular classes or to their parents or guardians."
If you want addition information
related to the school’s policy regarding what may be purchased with state
funding, check out this link on the school’s website: http://www.sscs.cc/parent_resources.html .
I cannot submit a request for the
following items:
