Appropriate Uses of Instructional Funding

What Is An Appropriate Purchase with a School PO?

A non-sectarian, non-dangerous, educational item for enrolled student usage only that does not present a conflict of interest situation.

What Is Sectarian?

Items with specific instruction of doctrine or application of religious text are sectarian. Ask your ES Advisor if in doubt.

What is Dangerous?

Anything sharp, explosive, too heavy for the ES to transport, or items specifically disallowed on these 2 documents:

What is Non-educational?

The document at this link defined some non-educational items.

What is a Conflict of Interest?

A conflict of interest for this school has been defined by this board adopted school policy: http://www.sscs.cc/Handbook/esjob/conflictint.htm .

Who is Responsible?

The ES is the responsible party for determining that an item to be purchased by the school is non-sectarian and can be purchased with state funds. The ES must be familiar with what they are ordering, and/or do research as needed to make a determination on whether or not an item is an appropriate school purchase before the PO is placed. This is a very serious issue for the school and ESs willfully attempting to circumvent this policy are subject to ES Discipline.

What Do I Do with a No-No Item that Arrives at My House?

If an inappropriate item “accidentally” arrives at your house, it must not be given to the student, but the ES should first submit a PO Inquiry in ES Webfiles to make arrangements for its return to the vendor ASAP.

How can I Determine if an Item Fits an Inappropriate Category?

We recommend you use book sites on the internet (Amazon is a wonderful resource, even though they are not a vendor of our school), or go to the vendor website to see a description of what the item is. You may need to call a store to ask about an item if you cannot find a good description. When in doubt, consult with your ES Advisor.
