Immunization Information
The California School Immunization Law requires schools to enforce immunization requirements, to maintain immunization records of all children enrolled, and to submit reports to the Health Department.
• Kindergartners and seventh graders must present the immunizations record before entry; no "grace period" of attendance is allowed for these students if they do not have a current record. They are assigned a “waiting” status, and not “prospective” until immunization requirements are met.
6th grade enrollment applications received after the Spring cut-off enrollment date will be treated as a 7th grade enrollment application and put into “waiting” status until all enrollment info is received.
Continuing 6th grade students will receive information about 7th grade immunization requirements at the beginning of the Spring semester of the 6th grade. They must comply with the policy requirements by March 1st , or the ES will be asked to submit the completed health card with the SA for the next semester. If they will not comply with this request from the ES, the ES must submit a drop form for that student instead of an SA.
• With new students that have been home schooled we have 10 school days to receive the immunizations information or a signed waiver (see below).
• With transfer students from other schools, we have 30 school days to receive the cume file, which should include the immunizations.
Exemptions: The law allows permanent or temporary medical exemptions.
• If exempted for medical reasons, a doctor's written statement is required and must be mailed to the office with the health card.
• If immunizations are contrary to the religious or personal beliefs of the parent, a personal beliefs waiver needs to be signed. (On the back of the California School Immunization Record is a personal beliefs waiver to be signed by the parent. Make sure the student's name is written on the front of the form and that the signature is in the personal beliefs box.)
Conditional Enrollments: Students can be admitted conditionally. If they are currently up-to-date (next doses are not yet due), they may be admitted on the condition that they will receive still-needed doses as they become due in the future. The next dose must be completed within the deadline or by the due date, otherwise the student may be excluded.
If conditions for K/7th grade student’s enrollment are not fulfilled, the student is excluded. These students are excluded from attendance each day until the immunization record is received. (The State Health Department has made this rule for all public schools including charter schools).
