Revised 05/2005

Adult High School Students Update

Policy:

Due to a new state law effective July 1, 2004, we will only be able to serve continuing or new adult students if they have been continuously enrolled in any high school from a date prior to their 19th birthday. If a current continuing adult student has been continuously enrolled from a date prior to their 19th birthday in any high school (no gaps in attendance), then they can continue in our school as long as they are making regular progress of completing at least 25 credits a semester.

How to determine which adult students are eligible for enrollment:
1. If a new adult student wishes to enroll in our school, we must first have records that prove continuous enrollment in a regular high school from a date prior to their 19th birthday to the present date. Anyone 19 years old on the first date that they expect to be enrolled in our school, should fax/mail a copy of their transcript, with "adult transcript" written on it so that it doesn't get placed in a stack of other transcripts, and then the ES MUST wait until they receive an e-mail from ES Support giving them permission to enroll the student. (This is for regular admission. If involved in a special program, check with the program for specifics that pertain to your program.)
2. If a student drops out of a regular high school before age 18, and enrolls again prior to turning 19, then they are considered to be “continuously enrolled”. They may stay enrolled until graduation as long as they make regular progress.
3. Adult students will not be allowed to drop out of a regular high school after turning 19 and then return again. Any gap in an enrollment period from their 19th birthday on, excludes them from enrollment in another regular high school program.

Adult Student Policy:

Our school Truancy policies apply to Adult students, except that we do not mail out truancy letters since they are not under compulsory attendance laws. You will need to inform your adult students when they are truant of the consequences if they have a 2nd month of truancy/2nd missed appointment.
