IEM November 2009/10 ES Agenda
Please
read the agenda, along with each of its highlighted links, then print out as a
guide for this month’s ES job duties.
This agenda has been posted 11/6/2009 and the agenda
quiz is due 11/16/2009.
Please note that if you must
miss your ES meeting, you should inform your Area Facilitator and ES Advisor
and make arrangements with another AF to attend another meeting that month.
(All meeting times and dates are posted in the ES handbook along with AF e-mail
addresses and meeting date, time, and location). Your AF is listed in ES
Webfiles on the ES Welcome page. If you miss the meeting altogether, you
will be reminded of your responsibility to attend and will be held responsible
for the information given at the meeting. If you miss another meeting, it will
become a discipline issue and may result in a drop in your student load. We do
not believe that you can effectively serve your students if you miss critical
information about the school and your job. Thank you for making these meetings
a priority as you schedule your time for this school year! The ES Support Department.
1) Dates to Remember and Dated
Duties
a) November 2009: Vigorously continue 1st semester portfolio assembly and collect any and all missing samples from 1st semester
this month.
b) November 13, 2009 & December 17, 2009 at noon: The Payroll Snapshot will be run. Any forms not entered by the office by this
date will not be paid in the end of month paycheck (but will be reconciled in
later pay periods—no pay for active student days is ever lost to the ES). The
office needs 3 days to get paperwork entered after they receive it.
c) November 13, 2009: All ESs who were with us last year and wrote “ES Goals” on their ES Webfiles View/ES Detail page on the OG/SS Prof. Growth Goals tab are to enter a short written Progress report on how you have met your 2010 ES goals to date, and what you expect to do next semester. First year ESs are to be working on the same goals, completing all of the initial phases of ES training, an observation visit, and working on their NCLB certifications.
d) November 16, 2009: Deadline to take and pass your November ES Agenda 2010 Quiz in ES Webfiles!
e) November 18, 2009: Second Semester
funding will be deposited, and may now be spent. Remember that funding drops
every day after this for newly enrolled students. Use the IF calc chart to give accurate info!
f) November
20, 2009: Mail all 2nd semester Student
Agreements to the office for those students who will continue with us next
semester. Plan now for this! Remember also that faxed
copies are not acceptable to the auditor, so please only send these in
by mail. Also incomplete course info will result in an “error” designation for
that student; do not send until the report card with course names has been
created, all info is completed and signed and dated by all 3 required persons
(2 for an adult student). If a student is in doubt about whether they are
returning, send in an SA and then drop them later as necessary. Please audit your own paperwork carefully
before mailing! We will begin to run late reports on these beginning
12/10/2009 so that you will know if some of your forms did not make it to the office.
g) November 20, 2009: For 1st semester graduates, you must submit (complete and click “DONE”) your Webfiles report cards with estimated 1st semester grades. Yes, we know it is hard to estimate the grades and credits for some, but assume the best, and we can make changes later if needed.
h) November 20, 2009: On or before this date, email stuassign1@ieminc.org with the names of your 1st semester expected graduates/dropping students so that you may receive new students to enroll now for 2nd semester.
i) November 20, 2009: Last day
to create a high school report card for your 7th/8th grade students taking Algebra 1 NOT for High School credits in order for
their correct STAR math test to be ordered (see link at 4e below).
j) November 20, 2009: Final date to sign your 11th grade student up to take
the EAP test (see link at 4e below). Last date to enter Summative math in ES
Webfiles as well (see link at 4e below).
k) December 4, 2009: Deadline to submit the completed grad packet to your
ES Advisor in one package and enter graduate updates as needed into ES Webfiles
student Detail page. The ES Advisors
need this lead-time to be able to complete their job by the end of the
semester! Please do not be late on this deadline date! (see 3e below). You should have October CAHSEE scores
prior to this date!
l) December 22, 2009: Remind your families
of the deadline to provide to you their Persuasive writing assignment this month
at your LR meeting. Refer to last month’s agenda for more detailed info. Give
them any help they need to get started if they haven’t yet started. You may
want to have the students do their writing while at the meeting with you.
m) December 22, 2009: Complete entries in Student Surveys (see 2c below).
n) December 22, 2009: Sign up all your students in their SME courses for 2nd
semester/approve those rolled over/check to see that your students are in their
CORRECT course/section (a or b)/delete those rolled over that are not taking
that section (see 2d below) prior to
this date.
o) December 22, 2009: First Semester Ends.
Plan now to not hold paperwork
over Winter Break, but mail everything you have to go to the office this
day! The office will be staffed during
the break to process your paperwork.
p) January
8, 2010: For
all ESs with students enrolled in SME courses, last day to send to your SME All
the Supporting documentation requested for 1st semester courses (see 2d below).
q) January
15, 2010: For all May 21, 2010
graduates, send/email to your ES Advisor information needed for a 2nd semester
graduates preliminary assessment (See Grad Procedure in ES Handbook).
2) Things to Do
a) ES Advisors: Remember
that your ES Advisor is always there to ensure that you know what needs to be
done, how to do it, and that you are doing it as required by the
school/auditor/state laws and regulations.
Your advisor is a wealth of information, and is committed to supporting
you as you become the best professional ES you can be! Please never hesitate to ask your questions
(about anything except
specific personnel/payroll issues) of your Advisor first before emailing or
calling anyone else! This will save a lot of time/frustration/effort for
everyone! You are not bothering them,
they are there to serve!
b) NCLB Certifications: Now
is the time to review your NCLB Compliance Plan that you completed last Spring
(continuing ESs) or with Linette Harris this Fall (new ESs), and be sure you
sign up for VPSS courses and/or CSET exams for Spring!
· Be sure you have a conversation with Linette over your
transcripts to ensure you qualify for the VPSS tier(s) you are requesting enrollment
in.
· Also email Linette Harris (iemtraining2@ieminc.org)
with any CSET exams you have signed up to take this year. Email the
results/transcripts as soon as you get them.
· You may tentatively sign up for a VPSS if you are
awaiting CSET results. If you pass the
CSET, then let Linette know asap to release your VPSS space.
·
At this time, we
are still able to pay for both your VPSS needed courses, and/or your CSET
needed exams. Complete a RAF form and
mail to Linette in the IEM office.
c) Student Surveys: Please complete the survey in WEBfiles for each of your students if
you have not already done so. If you completed it last year and there are no
changes, you are done—just take a quick look to be sure it is complete. Go to
"view" active students, and click on the grey survey button to the
left of the student number on the active tab. This information is used for
state reports, WASC, and will be used for charter renewal. Please be sure to do
this by December 18.
d) SME Grades/Credits and Spring Enrollments:
· Read this reminder document then read the summaries
below:http://www.ieminc.org/handbook/highschool/smeprocess.html.
· Your students who were signed up with an SME for Fall semester will be rolled over to the next course for 2nd semester by November 13th. If you do not need that course, go in after November 13th and delete them; if they will be enrolled, go in right after November 13th and mark your “ES Approval”.
·
New enrollees for
2nd semester classes can sign up after November 13th .
But, please take care of this prior to Winter break—by December 22, 2009.
·
Remember to email
your SME with any modifications needed to make the course fit your students
needs when you enroll a student and list the modifications of the SME
Assignment Worksheet. A course called "HQT ENGLISH X" should be good
for any level of student: Basic, Regular, and A-G. The ES
needs to email the SME for changes to the syllabus as needed.
·
Begin NOW (as
soon as you collect all assignments) to provide your SME with their requested
work samples. Use the SME Assignment Worksheet as a cover
sheet when sending the work to the SME, along with the SME Student List Worksheet where you
list each student, their assignments and credits, and specific
modifications if applicable. BE sure to copy any of these samples you will need
for the student's portfolio before mailing, as they will not be returned. The
HQT SME, as teacher of record, is the one who must keep this students work for
that course for several years. This is due by January 8, 2010.
·
Your SME will
review the work in the order received and communicate with you by phone or
email the official grades and credits. You will need to enter those exact
grades and credits into the students Webfiles report card and submit prior to
the report card due date. Then keep the email in the student's file.
·
Thank you SMEs
for another wonderful semester of support and for being so flexible when
working with the students and ESs!
e) Special Ed concerns:
·
If you hear a
concern from one of your families of special ed students with anything to do
with special ed, please do not try to follow up on the issues yourself (as you
are only be paid to be the regular ed teacher and therefore are not trained in
how special ed is doing their part), but email mcarr@ieminc.org. They
want and need to hear any concerns you are hearing so they can follow
up.
·
You, the ES of a
special ed student, are expected to arrange your schedule to be able to be at
IEP meetings—your input is critical! Do let your advisor know if you are not
being notified ahead so you can plan your schedule around these meetings.
·
To make a
referral to special ed for a student not currently in Special ED, see the
information in the Handbook at Student Study Teams and follow the process
by submitting the required forms. Do
not call the special ed office for
this! They will contact you.
·
Special Ed
services are not funded by Instructional Funding. You, the regular ES should not be submitting
vendor requests for special ed services, nor making recommendations about these
types of services with your family. All
of the services needed specifically for special ed issues will be provided by
the special ed department, after being written into an IEP, if
appropriate. In an IEP or 504 meeting,
there may be a recommendation of “regular ed” materials or services you
need to purchase from IF. We only expect
our regular ed ESs to work with their special ed students in the area of their
regular education, or to allow/provide accommodations/modifications as
indicated on the IEP. For questionable vendors, vendor relations will check
with the special ed department for clarification before approving. For
additional questions about this separation, contact your Advisor.
3) Training Items
a) Dual Enrollment: Read
this document about Dual Enrollment posted in ES Resources: http://www.sscs.cc/Enrollment/DualEnrollment.htm
.
b) Vendor Requests and PO Inquiries:
· Prior to your meeting, watch the Vendor Requests Webex, then review the Vendor
Requests documents. Note the Vendor Approval
Checklist to use when determining if a
vendor should be submitted for our school. Bring any questions or concerns to
your meeting.
· Prior to your meeting, watch the PO Inquiries Webex. Bring any questions on this to your meeting.
c) ES Role Clarifications: Please read through this "Role of the ES throughout a
student’s educational career"
document and bring questions/comments to your ES Group meeting.
d) Prepare for the December Portfolio Review:
· Review this document and bring your questions to your meeting: http://www.ieminc.org/handbook/portfolio/portsampqaiem.htm . Remember, the Dec portfolio review meeting is for another ES to peer review your work and provide feedback on corrections needed before you do your final portfolio assembly and to share ideas for subjects where your peers are having difficulty finding an appropriate sample– please come prepared with everything as complete as possible for 1st semester. Ask your advisor questions now if you are unsure about something so your portfolio can be accurate and complete before your AF meeting.
· In addition to bringing your completed 1st semester portfolios for all students AND your final completed portfolio for any student who has dropped during 1st semester and any 1st semester grads (note: this meeting does not have time to assemble your portfolios, please have 1st semesters’ done prior to your December meeting), it is helpful to bring the following extra supplies to your ES Group meeting in December:
·
1st
semester portfolios should be placed in their envelope left open for review
with the following:
·
After
this review, make any needed corrections, give the portfolios one more review
by you using the checklists, then mail
your dropped and grad student portfolios to your ES Advisor.
e) Graduation vs Completion:
·
In
order for students to receive a diploma,
they must meet all of our graduation course requirements, plus pass both
sections of the CAHSEE,
·
Can
a special ed student who has not passed both sections of CAHSEE receive a high
school diploma?
o
They must
have attempted the CAHSEE (both sections: ELA and Math) twice! Then if they do not receive a score of 350 or
better, but have passed all required coursework for graduation, they will
receive a diploma. Mark them as a
"Graduate", not for "Completion" on both the Grad paperwork
and in the Drop/Grad section of ES Webfiles.
If in doubt, contact Becky
Cote (bcote@ieminc.org) for clarification for your student!
·
Non-Special
Ed Students who meet all of the graduation
requirements, but do not pass the CAHSEE, may choose to receive a School
Certificate, and not a Diploma. Or they may choose to stay enrolled for an
additional year and attempt the CAHSEE up to 3 more times, which still
completing 25 units each semester. Remember there is a form we need signed
if they choose to leave the school with a School Certificate located at: http://www.ieminc.org/genericforms/schcertselagr.pdf .
·
Graduation/Completion
Packets will still need to be
completed in all of the above situations, and sent to your Advisor by the due
dates listed above. Plan ahead to meet your deadlines for submitting
your 1st semester packets!
·
Graduation
course requirements clarifications: (Contact your ES Advisor for help with
specific courses)
f) LR Reminders:
·
Seasonal Holiday
Activities reminder: Please remember that as the holidays
approach, when we document the activities in the learning record, we should not
write “are making Christmas gifts, cards, or decorations”, but instead write
specifically what they did, a woodworking project? Drew and colored pictures?
Created a project using paper mache’? Copied the art
technique of the Impressionists? Did cut and paste activities? We are not paid
ADA to “create Christmas items”, but to do something like the activities
listed. Please just list the activities, not any seasonal holiday description.
If the student studies the meaning and origin of Christmas and/or Hanukah, this
is only appropriate to list on the LR if the student is studying holidays of
all the major world religions this school year.
·
K-8th LR Assessment Statements: As we approach
the end of the semester, every K-8th grade LR course will need to have an assessment
statement. If your students are assessed monthly, this is ideal. If not, then
please email your advisor with the dates of the LR where assessments are
included so they can do a review, or email which students are assessed monthly
and any record can be reviewed. All advisors should receive an email about each
of your K-8th graders prior to January 22, 2010.

Departments

·
Vendor Search
on PO: In ES Webfiles, on Create/PO Request, there
is now a yellow button "Vendor Search" When creating a Product or Service PO, you
can now use that button to search on the vendor name instead of scrolling
through the entire vendor list. When you
find your correct vendor, click on the yellow "Choose" button to
enter onto your PO.
·
Vendor Status: In Es Webfiles, choose Search/Vendors. If a vendor has not status showing, that
means it is NOT APPROVED for your school.
·
Report Card
addition of ES of Record: In ES Webfiles,
choose View/HS Report Card. Then choose
one to "View". You will now
see the "Course Teacher" for each report card line. The default teacher is you, the ES. For those courses that you are not HQT for,
you will need to enter the Teacher of Record (TOR), who is the SME. For an HQT online course or Community
college, those will appear as the Teacher of Record. To enter your correct TOR, go to the CP
Enrollment tab. At the top you will see
the SME for each of your courses (if you have enrolled them with a SME). Choose that SME name on the line for the
correct course they are TOR for. (This
seems like more busywork, but this is part of an important state report that we
must do that verified that each of our classes are taught by a HQT SME. ). You will need to enter the SME names prior to
November 30, 2009, and the sooner the better!
After this, please enter the names as you complete the report card,
after enrolling in the HQT course (or deciding to use an online course or
community college).
b) VENDOR RELATIONS
·
CP
find: To find a CP instructor for a CP course, the ES must use the
search/vendors within ES Webfiles. For confidentiality purposes, they
will not show up on our webpage listing of vendors. A quick way to
tell if a person listed by name in the Vendor file is a business vendor or an
employee instructor is to see how their name is listed. A business vendor
doing business under their own name will be listed first name first, then last
name. An employee working as a school instructor will be listed by their
last name first, then their first name.
·
Semester POs Reminder: When
submitting a PO for an educational activity for the whole semester, please
break up the units by either session or per month costs. If a
· CP Set-ups: Do not put business names in CP set-ups—they must be employee names, as they are paid on a timesheet. (Remember to do all businesses as POs and not as CPs if at all possible!)

c) CURRICULUM:
•
CAHSEE Intervention – EMAIL FINA!!
ALL 11th and 12th
grade students who have not yet passed both sections of the CAHSEE MUST receive
immediate CAHSEE Intervention. ESs need to email Fina Hustrulid,
fhustrulid@ieminc.org, with the CAHSEE Intervention for each of their 11th
or 12th grade students. (ESs
with any 10th graders that would benefit from early Intervention,
can also do PO’s for those students using the CAHSEE grant money. This is optional for those 10th
grade students). Fina will track all
CAHSEE Intervention (11th & 12th, and optional 10th
graders) and run her report the first
Tuesday of each month to check to see that all mandatory students are
receiving Intervention. ESs with a chronic pattern of not emailing
Fina will be noted and the ES’s Advisor will be contacted.
•
CAHSEE Intervention Grant Money
There is some CAHSEE grant carry-over money from last year that we can
use this year until it is gone. But
there is no new money for this year.
To create a CAHSEE Grant PO for Intervention:
ESs DO NOT click “DONE” on their PO.
Also, ESs need to go to the ES Notes, and click “Other,” then write the
word, “CAHSEE” in the ES Notes. This is
a little different process from last year.
Failure to follow this process may mean that the money does not come
from the CAHSEE grant. It doesn’t hurt
to email Fina with your PRVPO to your CAHSEE PO, fhustrulid@ieminc.org.
•
11th & 12th Graders Who Have
Not Yet Passed CAHSEE: Verifying “Pass”
Scores
ESs may verify a CAHSEE passing score
from an unofficial “parent” copy of the transcript. You do not need to
verify from an official transcript. If
so, communicate those passing scores to Fina.
If the ES is not able to verify a passing score from an unofficial
“parent” transcript, the ES may not just take the word of the student or
parent. That ES needs to order Intervention
right away for that student.
ESs may not wait for CAHSEE test
score results to arrive before
ordering Intervention materials.
At the very least, the ES should print out some of the FREE CAHSEE prep
lessons from the CDE website to give the student work while the test scores
arrive. Be sure to communicate to Fina
what they are using as their intervention, until the test scores arrive.

Edition Math Workbook for Middle School Students, Grades 6-Algebra 1
Pearson Prentice Hall’s California Edition math program for middle school has a
math workbook that corresponds with the Student Edition. It helps guide students through a
step-by-step working out of the problems, and forces the student to not do
steps mentally or skip steps. You might
ask, “What is wrong with them doing steps mentally?” Many students need the discipline of
methodically working through their math problems systematically. Some students work too quickly and/or have
poor math organizational skills. This
results in missed math problems, even though the student understands the math
concept. The math workbook will help
these students. Please inquire about
this program if you have a parent that is absolutely wanting a math workbook
program for middle school. There is
Workbook A for grade level students and Workbook B for ELL and struggling
students. Email Shelley Ross for
information about this math program and workbook, curriculum@ieminc.org.
• HQT
SME Courses for Spring Semester 2010 – Are Available!
--PLEASE ENROLL VERY CAREFULLY, as
both fall semester “1” courses and spring semester “2” courses are in the
system at the same time now, and it is easy to enroll in the wrong one.
--Look for semester “2” before enrolling the student to eliminate errors.
--To remove an incorrectly enrolled student from an HQT SME Course, email

Styles Assessments – Kaleidoscope Profiles (Grades 3-6, 7-12)
Students
need to be assessed with the Kaleidoscope Profiles and their learning style
results need to be entered into WebFiles by December
22nd. Email Kirstine, iemtraining3@ieminc.org, if you need more assessments. Include the number and the level in your
request.
d) GUIDANCE:
· Community College Concurrent Enrollment: Typically, in the month of November, community colleges post their schedule of classes offered for the spring semester. If a student is interested in attending a community college for spring semester, November is the ideal time to deal with the paperwork (concurrent enrollment form, pre-concurrent enrollment form) and get the student officially enrolled in the college.
· General steps to getting a student into a college course: For students who have never taken a community college course, it is recommend the family first visit the college and walk around the campus. Have them visit the Admissions Office and get a general student application and concurrent enrollment form. Send the concurrent and pre-concurrent forms to Brandy Anderson at the Placerville office for his signature. Brandy will send back the concurrent enrollment form to the family and the family will take the application materials to the college admissions office. The student will then need to take math and English placement tests and also meet with a college guidance counselor. All of these steps need to be done before the student can sign up for a class at the college. Because there are so many steps, start the process today! Budget cutbacks have limited course offerings at colleges and it will be more difficult to get into classes. Don’t worry, high school students will get into college classes but only if they start the enrollment process early. Usually in November/early December is the time when most colleges first allow students to sign up for spring semester courses.
· Fall 2010 UC-bound students --- It is time to get those applications in! The window for submitting applications is November 1st – 30th.
· WebEx training for ESs: High School ROP - Questions and Answers (Tues, Nov 17th at 1pm). Earn one hour of professional development credit. This session will be hosted by Dennis Fuller (South Sutter Charter School ROP Coordinator) and Brandy Anderson (Guidance Counselor). Learn how to incorporate ROP classes into your students’ educational plan. Email Brandy (banderson@ieminc.org) to reserve a space for this training session.

Testing Sites: We will have all of
the STAR testing dates and sites ready for you by next month’s agenda.
· STAR Materials: We will be ordering our STAR materials the first week of December. In order for us to get an accurate number of the tests that we need, every ES will need to take care of the following STAR directions prior to Thanksgiving Break for each of their 2nd-11th grade students. The deadline for each is no later than Friday, November 20 2009! (For new students, continue to put the data in even after the deadline, as we will be able to do an order for their materials later on. )

7th/8th grade Algebra I students: ES’s with 7th and 8th grade students
taking Algebra I, but not for high
school credit, will need to create a high school report card for
Algebra I. After making the report card,
make sure to NOT (ever) mark ready. We will let you know when you can go in and
delete that course so it doesn’t get sent to a transcript.
o
For your
11th grade EAP students: (Encourage all
of your 11th grade students to consider doing this, as if the student’s test results are proficient,
then they will be able to opt out of some of the basic English and Math courses
their freshman year of college at the UC/CSU system.) The EAP is a collaborative effort between the
CDE, the California State University (CSU), and the State Board of Education
(SBE) designed to assess students for college readiness in their high school
junior year. The EAP is a voluntary
eleventh grade assessment that combines CSU placement standards with California
high school standards. This early
assessment identifies whether a student is prepared for college at a point when
students have the time to gain the needed preparation during the high school
senior year. The essay test portion is
administered with an open window during STAR testing time. Additionally, there are 15 ELA multiple
choice questions built into the eleventh grade test and 15 math questions built
into the Algebra II CST test. To sign your student up, go into ES Webfiles and do
the following:
o In order to view your student’s information on EOC’s (End of Course):
1. In Webfiles, Go to View/Testing
2. Select STAR/Attendance tab
3. Click on student number
4. View STAR Testing Tab Detail- Note “Assigned EOC tests” box to see if student has any EOC’s listed.
5. Let your student know the EOCs they will take this year!
o Mark the summative math box as applicable for your HS students. Even if your HS student is not taking math this year, they will still need to take Summative Math EOC if they have completed Algebra II.
1. In Webfiles, Go to View/Testing
2. Select STAR/Attendance tab
3. Click on student number
4. Make
note at bottom in “Summative Math EOC” box
and check the yellow box if your HS student has completed Algebra II in 9th, 10th,
or 11th grade. Please contact the assessment department if
you should have any questions on
this.
Note: If your student has completed Algebra II
and is currently taking Geometry, we need that student to take Summative
math instead of Geometry EOC. Follow the directions above, check to see if
Geometry is on their EOC list, and if it is, then email Fina at
assessmentclerk@ieminc.org to tell her of this situation for your student.
· CST Science Reference Sheets: If you have a student who will be taking one of these extra science tests, it would be a good idea to give them the reference sheet now that they will be using along with the test so they can be familiar with it. 5)
Networking:
a) Webex Training:
Watch together and discuss questions with your AF.
b) Portfolios: Print out the VAPA Standards with Possible Activities attachment. This month we will expand/share possible portfolio ideas to go with VAPA standards. Pick a VAPA ( Visual and Performing arts) standard your student of any grade level has worked on, with an accompanying portfolio sample you have collected to bring to your meeting. Every ES should bring 5 different samples, with 5 different standards. Email that standard and a brief description of the sample (see attachment for format) to your AF prior to the meeting for their compilation. Be prepared to share at your meeting.
c) Ask for help on any portfolio sample you bring to your meeting you would like help on.
d) Peer Help!
Discuss help needed from each other for textbook ideas, CP classes, tutors, and
other curriculum.

Peer Tips:
·
Use
the Microsoft Exchange calendar (comes with your email) to setup reminders for
what you need to do for your families/students/your ES deadlines/etc.
·
Free materials for teachers: http://stosselintheclassroom.org/index.php?p=stossel_message.html&l=1
.
· Math programs liked by ESs and parents:
Singapore

Mammoth
Math is also homeschool friendly and liked by
parents. It can be downloaded http://www.mathmammoth.com/
Developmental
Math is a self-teaching program that requires little extra help for motivated
students. Videos are available. http://www.mathplace.com/Developmental/Developmental.asp
Math:
A Way of Teaching was recommended as a parent resource.
· Highly recommended for SAT practice is the SAT Question of the Day (very easy to enroll and receive by email). Start early—as young as 7th grade. It takes 1-5 minutes a day and prepares students for the types and format of questions on the PSAT and the SAT.
· Also recommended is the book Lad: A Dog, a book apparently filled with SAT vocabulary words.
·
Some
ES's find it useful to send out monthly reminder to parents on items that are
due at their next meetings.
·
It
might be a good idea for ES's to send out SSCS's school material list to each
family once a year just to remind them what is acceptable or not.
·
Write
at Home and Write Guide, both online writing programs, provide good tutoring
and immediate feedback.
·
APEX
provides classes in all high school courses and tells students what is to be
done daily.
· Create a high school “guidance” folder that includes a print out of SAT/ACT reg. dates, financial aid deadlines, etc. to take along with you to all high school meetings.
· As part of a computer skills or other life skills related high school course, ask that students complete a “scavenger hunt” on the internet to locate important upcoming dates for test, financial aid and college application deadlines.
